Which means that residents of places like Maroochydore, Buderim, and Kuluin are all within a short drive of some serious adventure. All they need is their 4WD vehicles and a good set of tyres to start having some fun and adventure in the sand.

Knowing your terrain

The problem that many people face with their 4WD vehicles is knowing where to start when it comes to beach driving. These are people who have probably heard horror stories about vehicles being stuck for hours on end. Which has caused them to become a little cautious. There is a little bit of a learning curve that has to be endured to get the most out of beach driving. But a few basics should be enough to help you either avoid, or get out of, some sticky situations.

One great idea to start out with is to join one of the four 4WD Clubs situated in the Sunshine Coast. The members of those clubs are all experienced beach drivers. They will be more than happy to share some valuable tips with newbies. One of the first things that you will need to learn is how to use a snatch strap. As that is something you are going to need if you do get stuck. The biggest mistake that people make with the strap is to attach it to the tow ball. This just isn’t strong enough to get the job done, which means making sure the strap us attached to the D-shackle or some other strong recovery point on your 4WD vehicle.

4WD Tyres

Tyres play an important role in making sure that your beach driving experience is a fun one. In order to ensure that the vehicle gets a proper grip on the sand, it is recommended that tyres inflated to 40psi be taken down to about 25psi. This will help the 4WD tyres get a grip on the soft surface. Although it should be noted that the risk of a rollover becomes greater when they are at that pressure. Try to avoid turns that are speedy and sharp, and you should be just fine.

While there are plenty of other off-road adventure possibilities that await the 4WD driver. It is recommended that a flat beach is the best place to start. The flat surface can be a lot more forgiving that other off-road places, such as forest trails. It’s a good starting point for drivers who have never been anywhere, other than on a regular road. Another thing to pay attention to, if this sort of adventure sounds fun to you, is that the rules of the road are also applied to every other surface. Having good quality 4WD tyres will help you make that journey possible. That means adhering to speed limits, and making sure that you are courteous to other drivers enjoying the same space as you.
